Tucked away in our first floor apartment are Ann (the mothering/hosting roles), Patrick and Lara (above) who are a great help. We are Sam the cat's staff--allergy alert to those who have serious reactions.
We enjoy our pet so those enquiries with severe cat allergies will be helped to find dander-free accommodations with our Bed and Breakfast colleagues.
The Rideau Canal was built in the 1830's, under the leadership of Colonel John By, as a military waterway to Kingston and Lake Ontario. It's only use has been commercial and recreational. The area to the north and east of our location was named 'The Notch in the Mountains' by the Canal Engineers and Surveyors. Remnants of the mountain are still visible.
Our home was built by Mr. Frank Jones, manager of The Ottawa Dairy, in 1930, 19 years after the first permanent bridge was built across The Canal at Bank Street (replacing a wooden bridge). Originally, the land extended another 100' west on Colonel By Drive where two homes were built by the Caplans, owners of the Caplan Department store chain, in 1947, for family members.
We encourage you to make reservations to avoid disappointment. A Visa or American Express Card number is required to confirm your reservation. 15% of the value of your reservation is non-refundable should you decide to cancel, up to 4 days in advance of your expected arrival. Should you cancel within that 4 day window the cost of one night's stay will be applied to your credit card. If you leave earlier than planned, 50% of the balance of your expected stay will be charged.
As much as we adore helping out the credit card companies we prefer payment with cash, cheques, Travelers' Cheques or Money Orders in Canadian Funds. We can also accept American Express and VISA. All long distance charges on the guest phone are the guest's responsibility. A minimum of two nights stay is required for weekend and holiday bookings.
